The best beach is found on the northeast corner of the island a short walk north of where the daily boats arrive.
The winding, unpaved roads of the island interior get very dark at night - bring a flashlight with you when walking home at night.

DIVING AND SNORKELLING
There is good snorkelling directly off the beach on all three Gilis. Many small stalls hire snorkelling equipment for the day and it’s easy to float on the gentle currents, watching the colourful parade in the crystal clear waters below.

FISHING TRIPS
Whether you want to spend the day lazing on a boat with a cold beer and throwing a line over the side, or are looking for a serious deep sea fishing adventure, the Gilis have all types of fishing options. Line fishing and trawling can be arranged on all islands -- enquire at your hotel or with the local fishing boat operators. On Gili Trawangan, contact The Beach House who can arrange fishing trips and charters with local fishing boats or onboard their boat, “Catch-a-Snapper”. All have experienced captains and fishermen with built in fish finders!

ISLAND HOPPING
All three islands have their own unique style and a day spent island hopping is a good way to discover the Gili of your dreams! Each island is within a short distance of the other and the waters between the Gilis are usually calm. Charter local boats on any of the islands for a day of exploring, or arrange a package tour out on the islands that includes snorkelling, turtle watching or a picnic lunch on a secluded beach

Getting to Gili Trawangan

From Bali: Daily boats leave from Padangbai (90 minutes from Kuta) to the Gili Islands. Optionally, "fast boats" leave from Benoa Harbor in south Bali and make the journey in less than three hours.
From Lombok: You can charter a boat directly from Senggigi or take a cheap ferry from Bangsal, about an hour from Senggigi. Be wary of touts and scams around Bangsal Harbor.
From Gili Air and Gili Meno: Speedboats make daily runs between Gili Trawangan and the other Gili Islands. These boats pull up to the beach so expect to wade ashore in knee-deep water.

When to Go

Peak season in the Gili Islands is July, August, and around the Christmas holiday. Accommodation books up quickly and becomes much more expensive during this time.
The monsoon season is from November to April, but Gili Trawangan does not receive as much rain as Bali or other parts of Indonesia.

Gili Trawangan

The island of Gili Trawangan in Lombok, Indonesia is a major stop on the well-beaten trail for backpackers in Southeast Asia.

There are no police on Gili Trawangan. Instead, the island is run by a village head which has the final say in all matters. Pool tables, gambling, and dogs - much to the relief of the many resident cats - have been banned on the island by the village head!
Every night on Gili Trawangan is special. Glorious island sunsets are the signal to eat good food and prepare for a dance party that may not stop until the sun rises!

Around Gili Trawangan

Most life on Gili Trawangan is centered on the east side of the island along one main road. Roads and footpaths spider toward the less-developed interior of the island where you will find cheaper accommodation.
A broken road circles the island which can be navigated on foot or by hiring a cidomo (horse-drawn cart). There are no cars or sputtering motorcycles to ruin the idyllic island vibe.

Please note that any kind of motor-driven vehicle is prohibited there to prevent air pollution. To get around, you can rent a bike, or just sit on the back of a cidomo (sleigh pulled by a horse).

Location

Above you can see the world famous Gili Trawangan (trah-wung-un) off the North West coast of Lombok, Indonesia. Gili means "small island". There are many more less developed gilis dotted along the coast, but you are looking at the best known.

Gili Trawangan Hotel is located on Gili Trawangan the most popular of the 3 islands (Trawangan, Meno & Air). People come from all over the world to experience the tropical desert island feel of the Gilis, the coral & deep diving sites, or just to hang out as daytime beachcombers & night time party people for a while. In 2011 Lonely Planet named Gili Trawangan one of its hot destinations. On Gili T the mantra "No cars, No motorcycles, No dogs, No worries" sums up the reason why many take the side trip to Gili T from Bali.
Bali is still the gateway to the Gilis as international flights are not yet able to go direct to Lombok's new airport. From Bali you have 2 options - 1/ An approx 2-2.5 hour fastboat trip direct to the beach on Gili T or 2/ Catch a flight to Lombok (20 minutes + transfer & check-in & waiting times) followed by a road trip (1.5 hour) & finally 10 minutes by speedboat to land on Gili T. Yep option 1/ looks the easiest (except in rough weather).

Whatever option you choose we can arrange transfers from your hotel in Bali to the boat harbour or the airport. If you fly the transfers include pick-up from Lombok Airport for the drive to your waiting speedboat. In both cases you'll be met at your arrival on Gili T & taken to Gili Trawangan Hotel
